Frank McKay, Director, School Services
Frank McKay brings a variety of experience in education to his work at NC New Schools including 13 years teaching mathematics and science in grades 8-12, five years leading experiential education courses for North Carolina Outward Bound, and two years training and coaching teachers for the U.S. Peace Corps. McKay's passions include creating strong learning communities for all learners and extending student learning into the community using Project-Based Learning, Service-Learning, and Experiential Education. His recognitions include the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Education, the national Bartlett Merit Award, and North Carolina Environmental Educator of the Year. McKay is currently a member of the LEARN NC advisory board at UNC Chapel Hill. He has traveled to Belize and Peru as an Educator of Excellence with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
McKay holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and philosophy from Lenoir-Rhyne University and a master's degree in ecological teaching and learning from Lesley University.
