Findings from the Field: Regional Pathways to Prosperity Model Development

The NC Pathways to Prosperity Leadership Council, chaired by Duke Energy Senior Vice President Jeff Corbett, is leading the state’s work in developing a seamless education to career pathway, in partnership with representatives of employers, NC Department of Public Instruction, NC Community College System, NC Department of Commerce, Office of the Governor and NC New Schools.

The effort is also aligned with the goals of NCWorks, a statewide initiative which seeks to grow North Carolina’s economy by strengthening the state’s workforce and connecting employers to high-quality employees.

On September 24 and 30, 2014, members of the State Leadership Council visited the two pilot sites (Northeast and Southwest regions) to learn about implementation at the local level. Council members met with leaders and heard about success stories and challenges in building career pathways in their regions.

This report is a summary of observations from both pilot sites and includes information on key leaders, progress as measured by metrics, barriers to implementation and lessons learned.
