At North Carolina New Schools, that's not the vision of high school we want for our state. We believe that every student deserves to graduate ready for college and careers so they can provide for themselves, their families and their communities. And in today's global economy, we simply can't afford to have students who are bored and disconnected from the realities of the modern workplace, who graduate unprepared for college and careers, or who drop out of schools unprepared for a rapidly changing world.
So what do these innovative schools and classrooms look like?
Challenging standards. Meaningful learning connected to life after high school. Supportive relationships between teachers and students. Access to college coursework and degrees. Teachers working together to ensure every student succeeds. Schools where every student reads, writes, talks and thinks in every class, every single day.
An expectation that every student will graduate ready for college, careers and life. No excuses, no exceptions. That's the expectation North Carolina must set and the promise on which our schools must deliver.
NC New Schools brings business and industry to the table, along with partners in government, school districts and higher education - connecting schools and districts with workforce development efforts already taking place in the community and ensuring that teaching and learning are both relevant and rigorous. We provide intensive and proven coaching for teachers and principals in teaching and leadership at every level. We offer professional development opportunities that give schools access to cutting-edge strategies and the opportunity to collaborate with experts from across the state and beyond. We create networks of schools focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics to serve as models and collaborators in innovation.
